Can i put a pdf book on my ipod nano?

Not directly - the Nano doesn't support .pdf files. However you may have two options:

1) Convert the files to .txt files and move it to the Notes section (you have to set your Nano into Hard Disk mode first - detailed instructions on how to do that are in the User's Guide here http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipod). Then you can read the book as Notes.

2) Convert each page to a picture file and view through Pictures. That's going to take a long time, though.

Either way won't be perfect. It's going to be difficult to read on the tiny screen and the format will probably get a little tweaked. You'd be better off buying the AudioBook version of the book and listening to it.
