Can i put a window air conditioner inside?

I have a window air conditioner but I am not allowed to have a a/c in my apartment window. I have thought about building a small stand the window height and building a small box around the back of the a/c and having that up against the screen of the window. And for the drain cut a small piece of hose and attach it to the back of the unit and then just have the tip of the other end running out the window. Does anyone think this will work? I have thought about it a lot and cant see why it wouldn't seeing as the unit will be vented outside. Please let me know any and all thoughts i would like to know before all that work. Sounds ghetto I know but I cant afford a portable unit and i already own this one and would like to use it.

  1. h**l yeah! This will work fine. How about letting the water, which is really just condensation, into a pitcher, and drinking it?

  2. Here's an additional problem to consider; What are you going to replace the exhausted air from the room with ? It's sounds great, until you realize the air needed to blow across the condenser coils is coming from your own space, and needs to be replaced. If you open a window or door, don't you have to cool this additional unconditioned air also ?

  3. It probley will work, One thing you will need to make sure the exhaust from the A/C is going out the window and not coming back into the room, NO danger! its just really hot air ! Getting the water to drain may be a problem though, the A/C will need to be alittle higher than the window, there cant be any low areas in your tubing or it will back up. Good Luck

  4. I too wonder about that. If it works let me know then I can do the same.
