Can i put an 8mm tip of a cue which came with a 9.5mm tip?

Use to play a lot of snooker hence the 9.5mm tip, now rarely ever play snooker but play alot of 8ball of pub tables where the white ball is smaller than the object balls, even a cheap 8ball cue is £70 over here so if i can just fit a new tip that would be great, just want to know if i can do it? thanks
