Can i put an ethernet cable in the thing i put my phone into (modem) i think to do xbox live easier?

i tried doing with a router and a thing that says stuff like power,DS,US,online and telephone 1 and telephone 2 is that another kind of modem

No. You need to have a modem that allows a ethernet cable connection. I have an Xbox too. Do you have a dial up connection, dsl, cable, or what?

Wow... you have yourself and oldschool ISDN modem.  Completely useless.. Sorry.  that modem uses 2 phone lines to make a double Dialup connection, to give you 128k speeds.  Unless you have this really old internet style, it won't do you any good.
