Can i put live plants in my fish tank?

i saw a great pot plant today, the birds nest fern. i think it would look fantastic in a tank. even plants found at a garden centre for example.

  1. you would have to buy aquatic plants for aquariums to put in there...they are live but you cannot use regular plants


  2. only if you use under water plants all other plants will die

"Birds nest fern" (Asplenium nidus) is a terrestrial plant, meant for pots or terrariums.  Putting it under water would be a quick way to kill it.  The decomposing plant matter will rot, leading to ammonia issues, which can quickly kill fish.  If you want plants in your tank, get aquatic plants like Java Fern, Java Moss, Anubias, lilies, Hygro species, Swords, Water Sprite, and other easy-to-grow plants.
