Hello,

I've been growing up my black ghost knife for awhile now in with my dwarf cichlids and he is 13cm.Although he is no threat to my dwarfs, he is beginner to do the normal predatory behavior towards anything that swims past him.Can he go in with african cichlids of similar size and larger now that he is getting larger, if so i will put him in the 5ft x 2 ft x 2.5 tank with the africans.

Thanks

Bren

ps. They are a mix of Tanganyika and mbuna.. and there are also 2 jack dempseys (mild) and 3 Earth eaters in there :P (peacefull)

  1. African cichlids have completely different water requirements compared to BGK's and american cichlids. They shouldn't be mixed.

Africans need a high pH and water hardness, BGK's and american cichlids need average to low pH and water hardness.

  2. Personally I think he would be fine.  He may act predatory towards other fish but he will get a good smack of reality when the other fish fight back.  Learning through experience is what I have learned is best for most fish.
