I wear contact lenses that i can put in the thrash can after 1 month of using them. When i remove my contact lenses, i put them in a little case which i fill with a special cleaning fluid and then i lay my lenses in it and the fluid cleans my lenses.

I heard i may not lay my lenses in plain, regular water, but that i need to lay them in this special fluid every time. Is this true or can i just use regular water?

  1. It's true, you need to put them in the proper solution. If you put them in water they will actually harden.

  2. Is not recommendable that you put them in plain water, you need to use the fluid for it. You might ruin them

  3. No, you can't do that. I did that once and when I put them on my eye started burning and turned red.

Tap water has a higher pH than the solution used for your contacts (meaning its dirty). The solution for your contacts has some chemicals that keeps the contact free of germs and bacteria. Remember your eyes are very delicate.

  4. The special solution is a salt water based fluid to disinfect and kill any bacteria; saline. However while in the military, in Saudi after the war, couldn't get any saline, so I put them in tap water. No adverse affects; though I wouldn't recommend doing this. I would definitely put them in the saline to be on the safe side.

  5. The saline solution is a sort of salt water--like your tears, and it is sterile. Most saline solutions also clean the lens of oils, dirt, and protein buildup. Using plain water will be uncomfortable and make you more likely to get an infection.

  6. yes

but dont put in hot water

  7. No. I tried it once and it was like putting acid in my eye. Very painful!

  8. Never ever use regular water......it really damages the lense and will also damage your eyes, this fluid contains a special desinfectant harmless to your eyes. You must follow the instructions the optician gave you.
