Can i put my shirt that smells like me in the crate?

SORRY GUYS, THIS IS LIKE MY 4TH QUESTION ABOUT CRATE TRAINING MY 16 MONTH OLD DOG :/

i apologize for any annoyance.

but my question is, when i left my dog for 3 days while i went on vacation i left him with a shirt that smelt like me. My grandmother (who babysat him) said he didn't whine once and stayed by my shirt and guided it with his life.

A couple times before I left him with them for a couple hours and all he did was cry.

So i was wondering if something that smells like me would comfort him while being in the crate

Absolutely and that's a fabulous idea.

Usually folks recommend putting one of the dogs own personal blankets in with them but since the dog has been with you for a while your smell should provide it much more comfort.

My crew tends to crash on my side of the bed when the bed is vacant.  I thought it was because my side was softer but the reality is they prefer my smell along with the soft spot.  *g*

Absolutely. That was a very smart way too comfort your dog.

A dog's sense of smell is it's strongest sense it has. A dog uses it's sense of smell for almost everything. Your dog smells you whenever he sees you. For him, having an object that smells just like you is the closest thing to your actual presence.

Yup, you're on the right track.  He smells you and it's comforting to him.  Every so often freshen up the old tee so it smells like you again (go wear it to the gym or something), and remember that if you put a shirt in his crate it may get chewed on or otherwise destroyed (so don't give him a shirt you still want to wear).

Don't worry about asking questions! That's the only way you can learn, is by asking. It's a great idea to leave a shirt with your scent on it. It is like a security blanket for the dog and makes him feel more comfortable,like you are close by.
