  1. Yes, plain slate rocks are great for making caves and general tank decorations.

It wont need boiling, it's a fish tank, not a sterile operating theatre. Just clean it with a brush and fresh water and it will be fine.

You can use aquarium silicone to hold stacks togethers if you want to.

  2. Slate looks awesome in an aquarium! and the best thing is it comes in a variety of colors, so you can very easily change the look of your tank with very low cost.

As far as boiling goes, I wouldn't recommend it. Slate sometimes has a tendency to crack laterally when introduced to extreme, sudden heat. Just scrub it thoroughly under hot water and It'll be fine.

  3. yeah thats a great idea!! jsut make sure to boil it before you put it in your tank. this will clean the rocks and get any harmful chemicals and "c**p" off of it. trust me your fish will love it. ive got round canyon rock in my cichlid tank and they are awesome to watch as they swim in and out of the caves.

I boiled each of my rocks for about 10-15 mins then i let them cool so the tank temperature did not rise.

  4. You definitely can but be careful what slate you use in case its been treated. natural is best. They can be messy to make and you need the right tools to cut slate. even easier - contact me and I'll make you some
