okay so last year, freshman year in high school, i had a GPA of 3.5555 and we took a practice ACT test and i got a 21...which was very disappointing, as the school i want to go to (Vanderbilt TN) accepts 29+ ACT scores. i'm not stupid, i just slacked last year, especially in math (the teacher never checked the homework, so most of us didn't do it....now i'm at sylvan to catch up!) , and my math grade brought the score way down. anyways, if i work really hard to study and do my homework and get 95+ in all my classes and study for the ACT (I have this book called the Real ACT Prep? is that one good?), can i bring my score up from a 21 to a 29-30 in three years?

honest answers please, no sugar-coating!

  1. Yes - I believe you can and I am not sugar coating my answer.

My son took the ACT for the first time in 7th grade and got a 19.

He took it again last year 9th grade and scored a 24.   His goal is a perfect score.

The ACT tests knowledge - so if you have yet to take Algebra I or II / geometry - once you have taken these classes it will help your math section scores considerably.

Be sure the apply the test taking strategies recommended by your test prep book!  It really can make a difference.

Vanderbilt is a great school by the way - have you visited their campus?

If you are really really intent (and it sounds like you are) on getting your scores way up - talk to your parents about taking an ACT test prep course.  We may do this for our son before he takes the ACT (and SAT) "for real."

    You can do it!
