  1. It would be very hard for YOU to do it but im guessing that you are talking about a gunsmith doing the work. It could be possible since they are both .300 calibers( even though it does look like that is not true for the .308... please... just trust me) but they would have to drill some of the inside of the barrel out. Then they would have to redo the rifleing of the barrel because it is different for every caliber.

So you can see that this might be something pretty exspensive. The best option is to see if savage makes any extra barrels you could buy. If they dont then you can check www.gunbroker.com . There are some guys who sell the barrel off there gun because thats all that is salvagable.

  2. It is possible but probably far cheaper to just get the rifle in .308Win

  3. I wouldn't do it. The Savage 24 was never offered in .308 for a reason. The action can't handle the pressure of the .308. The .30-30 barrel is fine for hunting under 200 yards and has plenty of power for deer so why change it and possibly ruin the rifle. The .30-30 operates at 42,000 psi maximum pressure and the .308 operates at 60,000 psi and the Savage 24 action isn't designed for the extra 18,000 psi of pressure that the .308 develops. FYI, The 20 ga shell develops about 11,500 psi.
