My parents are divorced and i live with my mom. My mom doesn't earn any income because she's too weak to work. We don't receive any government assistance or anything like that. Her sister is pretty wealthy and sends her some money every month. Am i eligible to receive financial aid even if my mom doesnt work and will not have a W2 to fill out the application

  1. Yes, you can and will receive Financial Aid. It is a need based program and it sounds like you have need. When you fill it out, you can mark did not file for your mom.

Do not do what the other guys says and not say anything about the money your mom gets from her sister, because that will really complicate things and drag everything out.

Get started on it asap, because it is on a first come, first serve basis right now. But I suspect you will get a full Pell Grant.

  2. Definitely.  I was in the same situation when I was your age, and all 4 years of college I got financial aid (half loan/half grants).

Your mom will have to fill out the paperwork, there is no need to mention the money she gets from her sis.

If you don't know how to get the paperwork, just google "financial aid" and the name of the college in the same line.

Good luck and keep your chin up.

  3. You don't say how old you are - but I would guess old enough to get a job - that's what I'd do instead of relying on the government to bail you out.
