Question:

Can i record from Foxtel Digital to a DVD Recorder?

We currently got a new LG DVD recorder and VCR in one and were having troubles with it.

We want to tape tv shows from Foxtel Digital onto a DVD cd but it is failing. We record normal and you can see the slightest of it otherwise its all ants on the tv and no sound. The DVD-R is suitable for that type of DVD Recorder and we have tried to look at the manual but it doesn't help much.

If anyone can tell me what i am meant to do it would be much appreciated.

  1. To get component out of Foxtel, you will need to purchase a SCART to A/V cable which has 5 RCA connectors (3 for video, 2 for audio). You may use a video only cable (SCART to 3 RCA)

To make the SCART connector work, you will need to change a setting on your Foxtel box. Press “Setup” on the remote, and go to:

System Setup > System Settings > Picture Settings

and change “Video Output” to YUV (for component) or S-Video.

Note that this is best done by connecting Foxtel to your TV temporarily via S-Video or composite to make the changes, and then switching back to your TV’s component input.

RGB to Component converters can be purchased for a reasonable sum, and will give you the best outcome

A SCART to S-Video and Audio cable will come a close second.

Connect Foxtel to your TV via a SCART to A/V cable (or digital audio to a receiver if you prefer)

Connect DVD recorder to your TV via a Component cable

Connect Foxtel to your DVD recorder via S-Video and left and right audio

This will give you the freedom to watch Foxtel without turning on the DVD recorder, and will give you the sharpest possible image. When you decide to store a show from your PVR onto DVD (or just shift it to the DVD recorder’s HDD to free up space), simply fire up your DVD recorder, set it to the S-Video Line 1 channel, and press record

  2. we have fox digital IQ .. and we can record on our dvd recorder,

do all of your other free to air  channells come clearly through the dvd recorder?

can you ring the place you bought it from and ask them?

  3. I am not sure about recording to DVD, but I do know you can record to VHS all the normal channels record no problems, although if you try and record one of the pay movies it goes from light to dark repeatedly.  You still get picture and sound, but the it is quite disconcerting having the level of light changing all the time.

If I had a DVD recorder I would test it out for you, but unfortunately I don't.  Good Luck I hope someone out there can help you.

You could also try ringing Foxtel.  It is quite general and accepted practice to record normal programmes on TV now, although I am not sure regarding foxtel channels, but it can't hurt to ask.

I would check all your connections at the back and try recording something from your normal channels if in Australia I would try channel 7 or 10 or something like that.  If you can get that happening, then it should follow that Foxtel can be recorded.  Can you have your Foxtel running through the DVD Recorder/Player like you can have it running through your VHS Recorder/Player??  This might also help in the recording process.

Good Luck.  Let us know how you get on.

  4. I have Foxtel with IQ and will record the Box Office Movies onto DVD before they are taken off.

I'm sure you have tried this - but make sure the outlets on the back of the Foxtel box are hooked up through the VCR/DVD player and not the TV. You will then find Foxtel through one of the AV channels of the VCR/ DVD.

    Record as usual.

    I really hope this helps
