I bought a new dvc/vcr player and it will not record. I called the company and said I need to get a cable box. My t.v. has a tuner. Is there any way I can record without upgrading my cable service.

  1. Don't you just run the cable from the wall to the vcr and from the vcr to the tv? Then you  turn to channel 3 or whatever, choose the channel and start recording?

    - So your tv does not have red/white/yellow inputs? If it only has one coax plug (the small metal stumpy thing), then you need to buy an RF Modulator from radioshack. It costs 25 bucks, which is steep, but it's the only way. You plug the modulator in, run the cable from the wall to it, then run another cable from it to the tv. Then, you plug the dvd player into the modulator.

    Hope this helps.

  2. You should be able to since you are not recording the cable, just what is on TV.

  3. If you have an old VCR, you can feed the cable into it, and then use it's S or composite output to feed the new recorder.

    Update

Either bring the recorder back, or you need a tuner box. The cheapest way is if you have an old VCR where the tuner works-the tape mechanism doesn't have to. You hook up the cable to the old VCR. You connect the output of the old VCR via the composite cables-yellow, red, white, to the new VCR's input. Then you connect the output of the new VCR to the TV using either S cable or composite cables.

    Update2

If your old VCR has an RF (coaxial) connector, then it has a tuner.
