  1. yea not unless the cars on her name

  2. You would need to do a transfer of ownership to get it registered in your name

  3. she will have to release to you. No money has to change hands, though. She can sell it to you for $1

  4. no, she would have to sell it to you or sign over the title

  5. No, that would be illegal. She'll have to sign it over to you. Go to the tags and title office and ask them what to do, and to give you some sort of documentation that you visited them. Since you're bound to be pulled over at some point with an expired tag, at least you'll have some explaination that you're trying to get things resolved.

Go ahead and get your insurance since it's illegal to ride with expired insurance as well.

  6. Your mom will have to sign the transfer of ownership over to you. That would include the cars value. The car can be a gift, but you'd have to check the value for your state to qualify. Fairly easy process....she can sign the documents and fax them to you if she would like.

  7. you would have to transfer ownership at the insurance company... I have done it before... she just has to be an occasional driver and you the prim. driver.

  8. She can gift the car to you which would save you some money on the transfer, but the problem would be in getting it smogged for CA.

Read it for the smog information on out of state cars.
