No a charity must be an organisation not an individual. You could set up a charity with some friends as trustees and they could employ you but you would have to be doing work which had charitable aims.

No- not least because a charity has to have a 'wide public benefit', ie it cannot just benefit one person (eg finding Madeleine McCann) or a very limited number of people.

I would register myself as TIN (Tom In Need)

I suppose u could create a charity and on the collecting tins write;

80% of all proceeds will not be going to the said charity, but rather to me

that will make it legal, but extremly unfair on the good hearted people who want to help and give you money thinking you are a charity.

No, but in the USA you can form a church.

You can become a not for profit corporation. You would not be the first artist to do so. You would have to observe the tax laws governing 501(c3) entities.

The advantage of being a not for profit is you would not pay sales taxes on your supplies or purchase of tools or equipment. If, however, you distribute the money from the corporation to yourself you would then owe taxes on that money. It is something to investigate. Talk to your accountant or get an accountant familiar with artists and the way they work.
