  1. Cant' you use the same paint that is recommended to paint barbecues?

It comes in a spray can and you heat up the

barbecue first. Of course, in your case clean the rust etc off first. You may not have an option of colours. Black is possibly your only choice.

  2. Try an auto parts store for engine paint. They'll have naval jelly also.

  3. Home depot sells "Navel Jelly" to strip the old paint and then a "High Heat" spray paint. make sure that the surface is clean and smooth or any bumps and lumps will show up.

  4. Take some steel wool and clean up all the rust until you see the underlying steel.  Now - again with the steel wool, rough up the overall entire surface.  Forget stripping the old paint off - just rough up the surface well.  Check out a Lowes, Home Depot, ACE Hardware - and you can actually buy high heat spray enamel paint for grills!

Now I am going to give you a trick that professionals use to make it look like a show room finish.

Spray on the first coat - not to light but not to heavy either.  Let it set up just a couple of minutes - until the paint is tacky (sticky).  Now spray on a normal coat of paint - over the sticky coat.  It will look like a showroom or baked on finish.

    Good Luck!

  5. Navel jelly is for cleaning aluminum. Yes, you can wire brush off any rust and use a high-temp paint. You can find it at Lowes, HD and most hardware stores.

  6. Lightly sand the rust off, then use a high-temperature or "engine" paint. Regular paint will blister off the first time you use it. You can find it in most paint sections or automotive stores.
