no. You'll have no proof of the return. Plus, if it gets stolen, you'll be liable even if you didn't commit the crime.

Some offices will allow it, but it isn't a smart idea to do so.  Consider:  You drop it off after hours, and put the key in the door spot where you return them after hours.  Someone comes through the lot, and puts a rock through the windshield, or siphons out all the fuel from the tank.  Next morning they find your returned car.  Who do you think they will bill for the damages or fuel?  And keep in mind, they have your credit card number.

On the other hand, if you return it with an employee there who signs off that it was returned in good shape, with the right amount of fuel, and everything is fine.
