  1. How ironic this was posted here!! And after the previous Q in this section too!! :o

  2. Not to be rude, but why would you adopt them if you weren't prepared to deal with possible vet bills?

Most likely the pet store won't take them back, unless they gave you something in writing that you have a certain number of days in which to return them.

  3. How long ago did you adopt them? It sounds like they have an upper respiratory infection, or feline herpes. Do they have swollen puffy eyes as well as cold symptoms, or just the cold symptoms?

If you just got the cats in the past couple of days, the place you adopted or bought them from should have something in place incase this type of thing happens. Where I work, if the animal gets sick with in the first 7 days of adoption, we take responsibility for the vet bills.

If it is an  upper respiratory infection, they will need antibiotics and possibly iv fluids. Upper resp infections are extremely contagious and HIGHLY common in pet stores and at humane societies. You should definetly call and find out if you have some recourse. As for giving the cats back..I wouldn't. I would just have them cover the vet bills.

  4. Wow, that's really cold. I doubt that if you got them from a store they'll take them back. They're in it for a profit, and they can't sell sick cats. If you got them from a shelter I'm sure they'll take them back, but I'm not sure they'll give you your money back. You'll have to ask and see. And I'm really not trying to be mean hear, but please don't get any more cats. Pets cost money to care for. Eventually they do get sick or injured, and if you don't want to take care of them, then you shouldn't have any.

  5. You should contact the store to see what their policy is. I would not return them just because they are not "perfect" though. Sounds like an upper respiratory infection that needs immediate attention, so take them to the vet and argue with the store over payment later.

This is an example of why you Never, ever buy a dog or cat from a pet store. They come from Puppy (and Kitty) Mills. They are bred purely for profit while hundreds+ animals are killed everyday.

  6. If you bought them then they most likely will not take them back however if you adoped the cats through a petstore (some petstores work with humane societies and foster homes and rescues) then they will most likely contact whoever they got the cats for to have them taken back but you won't get the money back for them.  Animals are at risk for illnesses too which is why they tell you to take the new pet to a vet ASAP to get checked out.

  7. I've volunteered for a pet rescue for years now and we run adoption centers in a major pet store chain in our area and we run into people like you all the time.  People who adopt and then change their mind when real life sets in.

You adopted the animal with the understanding that you would accept it into your home and love it like any pet deserves to be loved.  Now that it's ill you want to just bring it back?

If it's outside of the "warranty" period that most places offer in good faith to cover undetected pre-adoption illnesses then it's your responsibility to deal with.  It's probably just a simple upper respiratory infection which is not uncommon in many adoption situations when the animals are under stress.  Take it to a vet and suck it up.

  8. OMG! Dude I am a single parent living on next to nothing and I still manage to get my pets (one cat and two reptiles) their check ups, immunizations and deal with medical emergencies.

Buck up, forgo that Starbucks in the morning for the next month and take YOUR pets to the vet.

And PLEASE refrain from taking in any more animals, you obviously aren't ready for that kind of commitment. For the love of whatever god you believe in don't have kids yet either... they really can't be "returned" when the medical bills start coming in, unless you adopt... in that case you should be drawn and quartered if you send them back.

  9. If you can't take care of the cats with a "cold" then you won't be able to take care of them for the rest of their lives. Where do you live? I'll take them.

  10. take care of your responsibility. You signed up for it now take care of it. Just as you and your husband get sick so do cats, dogs, and anything else that lives.

  11. That's cruel. Take care of the animals you took responsiblity for. I hope you don't have kids because you wouldn't be able to just return them when they get sick.

  12. Unless they had the "colds" when you bought them then I doubt you could take them back. I can't believe anyone would say something like this. You don't adopt an animal if you don't have the money to cope with vet bills. It is shocking, this is how cats end up in the RSPCA or other shelters because owners can't be bothered taking responsiblity for their pets. Don't you have any empathy? Most people get pets for their personalities and company and it would be natural to feel sorry for the cat and take it to the vet. But obviously you are more interested in its value in dollars.

Shame on you. Take it to the vet.

  13. It depends. Did you adopt them or did you buy at a petstore. If you adopted then yes they will take them back to continue to find a good home for them, I don't know if they will give you any money back. If you bought them at a pet store, I doubt they will unless you signed a warranty in which case you need to read it closely and see what they do in this case some will just exchange the pet for a healthy one...honestly if you aren't even willing to take care of an animal by taking them to the vet when they are sick ( a big part of owning an animal) then please by all means take them back so that they can find a good home.

  14. You'd have to ask the shelter where you got them.  I wouldn't return them, though, unless there were major health issues that were going to cause the cats to die.
