i just got a beach cruiser today and i live in socal. seems like everyone here rides theirs on the sidewalks and doesnt wear a helmet. im wondering if any of that is against the law (yes youre safer to wear a helmet, im aware of that)? if i ride with out a helmet and ride on the sidewalk will i more than likely get stopped? itd be pretty dumb to ride a beach cruiser in the road. not to mention unsafe. (im posting this in this section also to get more answers)

  1. Helmets are required for minors only.

If you're over the age of 18 then no it is not California law that you must wear your helmet on the street or sidewalk.

But I do suggest you wear one whether you think its dumb or not.

  2. you dont have to wear a helmet when riding your bike

(now in the city of Los Angeles you *can *ride your bike on the sidewalk but if going into Santa Monica

they prohibited it  as does Culver city (which can get a bit confusing if you live in that areas (as one part of Washington is in Culver city but sidewalk it self is in Los Angeles)

I have a beach cruiser and I do ride in streets (and on sidewalk

(like I would on Centinela) but on small side streets

(like Maxella, Caswell , pacific, etc) for example I would ride in the street)

Venice blvd does have a bike lane which helps)

also I do wear a helmet (I always say better crack in the helmet then scrambled brains)
