Can i roll back to xp from vista ultimate?

I had windows xp but installed vista from dvd, can i go back to xp doing a system recovery or will it just stay as vista ultimate

No. You must do a format of the hard drive and reinstall XP.

No, it will stay as vista.  There is absolutely no way you can go back to windows xp without reinstalling xp, unless of course you partitioned your hard drive, in which case all you would need to do is boot up using the xp partition.
