Okay, so i bought 4 JL Audio TR650-CXi's (rated 60W RMS) and i want to bridge a 4 channel amp (use 2 ch) so that i can push more power per speaker.

Would this make sense or should i just run each speaker individually on each channel?

Reason i ask is because i read that depending on the RMS power handling on the speaker, i should use and amp that puts out 2.5 x the RMS per speaker per channel and the only way to do this is to bridge the amp.

  1. Where did you read that? You should not exceed the RMS of any speaker by more than 10%.

Update: So you had the speakers connected to a factory head unit? Have you had them connected to the amp just normally yet? The clipping is likely if you were powering them with a factory stereo. But it is because the internal amplifier was trying to do something it can't, if you have an amp that is 60w x 4 you will be fine. What do you have for an amp by the way. Also in the link you gave, they are talking about Peak head room, RMS is not peak, the amplifier will be able to accommodate peaks, just worry about matching the RMS.

  2. of course u can man..lol i have a buddy that did it to his RF amps and he bumped the c**p out of his truck..but u might have an over heating problem later on..all u have to do is rig a computer fan from like bestbuy or something..hook it to a P/N 12v plugin and this should help it very well
