Can i run mid-grade gas in my 02 mercedes c240 even though it calls for premium?

You can pump anything you want into your Benz, but lower octane gas than what they recommend will just beat up the engine and make it not run as good as it is designed to.

You can but it is not recommended. What happens in the short term is that the knock sensor will r****d the spark plug firing to compensate for the lower octane. This will lower the power output as well as increase fuel consumption ( which cuts into some of the pennies you saved by not using premium gas ).

In the long term, this may cause damage to the engine. If damage does occur, don't expect any warranty coverage when they find out that it resulted from incorrect fuel type used.

I wouldn't do that, they make recommendations like that for a reason. If you want cheaper gas buy a Honda Civic or something else that can run low grade and possibly get better mileage.
