Can i see my family doctor regarding ADD without going to a Psychiatrist>? I feel more comfy with her.. ?

Can she help me with this>? I have been seeing her for almost 7 years and feel like i can go over this with her..

can she diganose me and prescribe me medicine>

Psychiatrist scare me since i had a bad experience with one.. i wont go there.. but it seemed like i should of reported him for verbal abuse... but thats the past..

please help and let me know...

  1. I got Paxil (for depression) from my general practitioner, so it should be okay as long as your doctor is comfortable with treating you for that.


  2. She has no expertise in this area: ask her for a referral to a clinical psychologist, or therapist with a good "bedside manner" she knows, and they can recommend medication, which she can prescribe.

    However, I strongly urge you to examine closely sections 22 - 25, on ADD/ADHD at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and avoid any of the powerful, central nervous system stimulants. If you must, try Strattera, but also take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily. Other alternative treatments worth considering are shown.

  3. ADD is not a psychiatrict disorder so the appropriate place to go is to your family doctor. Good luck.
