  1. Hi Changchunkit!

Only the northern half of peninsular Malaysia sees any of the eclipse at all.

As luck would have it, Kuala Lumpur is right on the southern limit of the eclipse.  Technically, you will be under the edge of the partial eclipse, and at 7:23 p.m. Malaysia Time the moon will brush against the solar disc.  The only problem is that only 2/10 of 1% of the sun will be covered, not nearly enough for you to notice it except with professional-grade astronomical instruments.

You could see a little of the partial eclipse if you wanted to go for a drive, though.  At George Town, for instance, the eclipse starts at 7:16 p.m. Malaysia time. The moon eats away at the solar disc for another 20 minutes until the sun sets at 7:36.  As much as 13% of the sun is bitten off, not very much but at least noticeable at sunset.

  2. 1 Aug 2008 - Total Solar Eclipse

(Saros 126, umbral mag. 1.039, max. eclipse 10:21 UT

total: 09:21:07 UT to 11:21:28 UT)

The track -- 237 km wide at maximum -- begins in north Canada, passes near the North Pole, and into northern Russia. It then runs south-east into China. It is visible as a partial eclipse in Britain, though will not be dramatic.

The maximum duration is 2 minutes 27 seconds, and the path width at maximum is 237 kilometers.

  3. I don't know if Kuala Lumpur will see the eclipse, but it should be visible in parts of Malaysia late in the evening. It will only be partial, however.

  4. heres a great web site that shows when and where solar eclipses for the next 7000 years:http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/solar.html
