if it is thin like a photo, guitar pick, coin, whatever you can most likely just put it in a regular envelope and send it.

I think standard fees for under about 5 lbs at the post office are like $4.

Yes, most letters are less than 1 ounce.

If it fits in a letter envelope and is protected enough for you, you can just put a 1st class stamp on it and mail it.  If it's bigger or you use a padded envelope, the postage will be more.  You can check on line at www.usps.com or take it to any post office.  Delivery confirmation is an extra charge.
