I have just recently started to fill out my fasfa information online, and i'm stuck on the tax information. I filed for taxes this year but I lost my papers, and i know nothing about calculating it myself.

It won't let me skip over this part nor go back so I have no clue what to do...

  1. Did you file online, for example, TurboTax? They can provide you with a copy of your tax return. If not, ask your local IRS office for a copy of it.

If there's no way to get a copy, then you can still apply if you know, relatively closely, how much you made.

Visit http://YourCollege101.com for a vast amount of information on financial aid and college in general.

  2. Not on FAFSA it won't...and if you sign up anywhere else IF you can skip it they will assume you skipped it because you are financially well-off and you will most likely not receive any scholarships. I suggest contacting the company you filed with to get your papers...it's incredbily important that you have that information! =) Good luck!!

  3. No you are going to need that info.

  4. I would submit the FAFSA using estimated income.  Check the box "will file" on the FAFSA and they will assume that you are using estimated figures.  Then, when you do have the actual tax returns in your possession, you can correct the Student Aid Report, change the question to "already filed" and correct your income.  Its important to get a copy of your tax return from IRS or whoever did your taxes.  If you are selected for verification, the school will request a copy of your return.

It is better to submit the FAFSA as early as possible in order to qualify for as many grants and scholarships as possible, based on first-come, first served basis and lowest to highest EFC.  Date of application on FAFSA is a determining factor.  So, I suggest that you submit the FAFSA now.

    Good luck.

  5. I would state the honest amount of earned income reported to the IRS.  Add to end of question block:  "IRS verification will be provided upon request."  Full disclosure is the best way to play it.

  6. The purpose of FAFSA is to determine what amount of financial aid you need to attend school.  Your financial need is based upon your income.  So, the answer is No.  You'll need to request a copy of your tax return from the IRS.  You should be able to find the request form on the IRS.gov website.

  7. No, you cannot submit FAFSA form without complete tax information. Or, better yet, they won't process the document.

You should be able to obtain your tax information from the IRS.

  8. No, you have to include your tax forms. Otherwise, it would be fraud if you have a higher income than is required to get student aid or a special loan from the government to go to school. You can get another copy of your taxes from the I.R.S.

  9. You can submit it with an estimate... if you have your 2006 tax data use this as your estimate to at least submit the FAFSA.  Then get a copy of your 2007 taxes (transcript request via IRS works) and make a correction to your FAFSA using your 2007 tax data.

Shame on all of you telling the Asker no.  It can be done with an estimate, but depending on what numbers you use, this will not be accurate.  You will want to correct it as soon as possible.  The main goal is to get the form submitted and on file.

    Easy as pie.
