  1. Smokeless gunpowder is a very poor component to use in an explosive device. Too much is needed and too flimsy a holder would be needed to allow it to 'explode', otherwise it would blow up guns.

Don't waste your time and possibly get in trouble with the feds, building a 'destructive device' is illegal unless you have a permit from the Feds.

AND since you don't know anything about munitions, even using an inertia device could get you into trouble. Do you know the color codes for the different military cartridges? What color is for incendiary, which one is for explosive?

  2. Bullet Puller

  3. Well Gomer, If you want to know how to extract the gunpowder from a cartridge, I think you should be a little more specific. Exactly what cartridge are you trying to extract the powder from and why do you need to do this? Your lack of knowledge of the English language leads me to believe that you want the gunpowder for some unstated purpose.

  4. The best helpful thought I have is that beating up a primer can set it off when you might not have wanted to. Second best thought is that both rifle and pistol powders are disappointing used for lighting and watching them fizz. A mixture of potassium chlorate and sugar is better for that. The nitrocellulose and in some magnum pistol powders a small percentage of glyceryl trinitrate, are a progressive-burning propellant, requiring high pressure to make them work. Regards, Larry.

  5. Smokeless powder is only useful as a small arms propellant. It will not make a good firecracker or any other kind of fireworks.

  6. G'Day mate you should just use pliers on the bullet and wriggle the projectile out it wont go off.Don't put the shell in the vice the bullet should come out easy.Just pliers that will do it fine.cheers mate

  7. Just use a kinetic bullet puller.  The bullet will come out without damage so you can reload it.  The powder will come out so you can use it for what you want.  The case will be undamaged so you can reload it.

If you use pliers you will ruin the bullet and case.

  8. i dont think they use gunpowder because it causes a puff of smoke. but they use some kind of powder like it.

im no expert but id say it depends on the bullet. id recomend not using metal for taking it part. metal=sparks. its depends how you do it.

wait you mean a .22 i have them i pulled the bullet off one time. just dont use metal and dont thow it on the ground or drop it it will go off

  9. I can tell you from my own 5 years of reloading experience, pulling down cartridges with anything but the correct tools is time consuming and doesn't work well.  Worse yet you usually damage the bullet and casing, which are the two most expensive components of ammunition.

Judging by what you are asking though, it doesn't sound like you want the bullet or casing but just the powder.I don't understand your willingness to run such a dangerous risk like getting hit by the primer or other pieces should the primer detonate when you are working on these cartridges.  Especially since you can buy powder by the 1 pound can at most gun shops.

If you are looking to get powder to make fireworks, forget about it.  The burn rate is too slow on smokeless powder.  If you are looking to do something more sinister and larger scale, definitely stop, It still won't work because gun powder doesn't have enough energy, homemade explosives are illegal, and most people that make them end up hurting/killing themselves in the process eventually regardless of their level of skill.
