I am currently still in high school, and was wondering if i could take the classes to start the process of getting my real estate license. I want to sell real estate on the side. Kind of like a fall back position. Tell me what you think. Oh, and the state I want my license in is California.

  1. no one will hire you as a real estate agent until you are 18 - you might not even be able to take the test until then - it's not a job you can do while you are in high school - RE agents are basically on call all the time - there is no steady paycheck - you only get paid when you are involved in a sale and you would have costs up front and ongoing before you even make your first sale - which takes months usually for someone working full time in RE

  2. Call a local realtor board in the county you will be living in and find out what their requirements are. On-line classes and testing are now available just about everywhere. Good for you for thinking this way and having the insight to research it first. The more you know about where you're going to work the better. Don't believe all the doom and gloom others will throw you're way, just remember when it's time to buy your own place holding that little license is like holding a fat deposit for your home!
