i think im going to end up with a D in my intro to general chem course when i am done with it in 2 weeks. im in community college and still have quite a ways to go (my major is psychology, biology minor), but when i retake the course and get a better grade, will that look alright when i apply to dental school in a couple years?

not counting this D grade, I have a 3.8 gpa. counting the D grade, its a 3.5 i think? just so you know what kind of student i am

  1. For most undergraduate schools, if you retake a class, you get the replacement grade calculated into your GPA. So in your case, say you get an A or B, you'd likely keep your 3.8. However, both the old and new grades will still remain. This means med/dental school gets to see both grades. And with a D, they will definitely ask you to explain.

I'd take some time to come up with an explanation right now. Don't be like .. I don't know, I just got it. With that kind of attitude, the admissions guy will think "he doesn't know?!?! So he can't take responsibility for his mistakes?!?! How can we trust him if/when he becomes a doctor?"

Also, intro chem is a pretty essential course, so you definitely need a good explanation. Were there reasons beyond your control? Sick parent, increased workload outside of school, other personal issues?

    Good luck!

  2. i don't think you could get into it.

  3. Look all-right? No.  Will it stop you from attending - probably not.

    Thanks
