I think it can reduce the possibility of getting pregnant but it will not stop it completely unless there is something more sinister.

You can have serious problems with a pregnancy if a fibroid covers the cervix and stops or causes problems with the birth.

Yes.  My ex-boss has uterine fibroids and she just gave birth to a healthy baby boy at 39 weeks.

She did have problems though... like the fibroids growing along with the baby.  So make sure you see your doctor regularly and discuss your concerns.
