ok so i got a collections leter and it said i owe 1 thousand something and i called the company and they bs the whole thing they said that it was open in 02 and closed in 03 but i recently called the number and it is active can i sue the company at&t ?

i have alredy went to the police fiels a fraud case of some sort i am just woundering if i can sue the company ? i have asked for loans in the past (to keep my house ) and they denied me i have a clean good credit history unfortionally for this please help[ !!!!

  1. The first question I have to ask is do you actually owe the money?

    Closing the file may have meant that they wrote it off or sold the debt to a collections company.  In many place a company will have up to 7 years (depending upon where you are) to take civil action on a debt owed.  

    You cannot sue for being sent to collections,if you owe a company money.   Even a closed file can still be collected.   A debt does not disappear until it is paid.
