Can i swap tranfercase from 4wd to 2wd ?

i have a 91 2wd xj and i also have a 89 4wd xj samne auto trans just need to know if i can swap case housing cause 4wd tranny in wasted

You can take a 4wd setup and make it 2wd if the input and output shafts/spines are the same. You would just have to drop the front driveshaft.

It's more than just the transfer case. The front half shafts and a few other items also but the 89 & 91 will probably be close enough to allow the swap.
