  1. To elaborate on both the previous answers, your dvr is actually a "decoder." The vast majority cable companies are afraid of this very reason and send the tv shows you watch scrambled or protected to your house. Your box becomes a decoder so that you can play it at home. They make this seamless to keep you unaware. You have to go against the odds and record in analog mode, which captures the video in real-time, after your box has already descrambled the signal. Hope this sheds some light on why it seems difficult, but keep in mind most things are always possible.


  2. just get a dvd recorder that hooks to the dvr hook it all up put the dvdr in it and play the show you want to record and hit record on the dvd recorder just like a vcr only for dvd's

  3. It can be done, but not very easily. To do this your computer has to have firewire, then you have to play the show back in real-time and record it in real-time. The comcast dvr does not allow for recorded material to be transferred as video files.
