  1. The only passenger trains available in Mexico are

CHEPE.- that you can take from Chihuahua City to Los Mochis, www.chepe.com.mx

TEQUILA EXPRESS .- from Guadalajara to Tequila City

    www.tequilaexpress.com.mx

And the mayan express in the south east of Mexico

    www.expresomaya.com

  2. You can take a bus from L.A. to Guadalajara.  Greyhound coordiates with a company in Mexico.  Just go to the Greyhound site below and enter your start point and destination, and date and click through the steps to see that they have 10 buses a day on that route.  There are no passenger trains in Mexico except for the tourist route in the Copper Canyon area.

  3. There are no trains anymore.

Personally, I think the bus ride is h**l. It's at least 40 hours and probably $175 each way. You will probably not save much money in the long run anyway when you add in meals.

There should be some reasonable airfares since GDL is such a huge airport. Try aviacsa.com.mx on Tuesdays. You don't have to travel on Tuesdays, but they give the best fares on that day.

If you really can't find a reasonable fare, take the Amtrak from LA to San Diego, and the trolley to the border. The Tijuana airport is about 2 miles away. Maybe you can get a better fare from there.

  4. Certainty  not directly .

If its an adventure you are looking for and wish that mode of travel.  I will get back to you

There are railway lines but I don't think they are for passengers.

You can Amtrack it to El Paso.  You may have to bus it to Chihuahua where you can catch the copper canyon train to Los Mochis and on to Mazatlan and again there are railways to Guadalajara but I don't think they are passenger trains. As you know there are more that 600 bus companies in Mexico and is the most popular mode of transportation..

The Copper Canyon is a spectacular trip and world renowned

I hope you hear from someone else that can make a contribution.
