I have an indian passport that is expiring in 20 days, however Im gonna get a new passport before that. But, meanwhile I need to take an appointment for my H1B renewal to make sure the dates are available in my favour. So, can I use the passport with 20 days expiry to book the appointment for now and later have a new passport by the time of appointment??

thanks in advance!

  1. You could, but you are potentially creating more problems for yourself.  It would be better for you to get the new passport as soon as possible and then proceed with the process.

  2. Curious is right- technically, you need a valid passport and a valid visa. They don't *have* to be in the same document.  But your life will be a lot easier if you get the new visa in your new passport. It's not illegal to have separate passports, but processing your H1-B status will be soooo much easier if everything's in the same place.  Take care !
