I've had it in for 6 weeks, is it ok to take it out and give the piercing a proper clean?

  1. I perfer you let a professional do it.. Because it will close up so quick, I mean as soon as you take it out.

  2. If I were you I would wait about 8 weeks.  If you take it out now it's going to puss I'm sure and it will be harder to get back in.  I would wait another 2 weeks or so.  Make sure when you remove it you are laying flat on your back...take it out, clean it, put some peroxide on it, lay flat on your back, put a little bit of peroxide on your stomach in your belly button then try to shove it back in.  Shove from the bottom to the top.  Not the other way.   Good luck.

  3. No, it takes the bellybutton 6 months to a year to fully heal.  Taking it out at 6 weeks is just asking for bacteria to get into your open wound.  I'm not sure what you mean by proper cleaning, but sea salt soaks or anti-microbial soap 2-3 times a day should be cleaning it just fine.

You should never use alcohol, peroxide, neosporin, etc. on a piercing.  Those are for scrapes and minor abrasions.  Your piercing is a puncture wound.  You should be cleaning it with a sea salt solution or anti-microbial soap (like Satin or Provon, although anti-bacterial Dial is acceptable as well).
