Can i take my hand gun to austrlia with me?

i am moving to australia. and i want to take my gun with me. will the police overseas take my gun from me?

G'day mate yes they will take it off u.unless they know you are bring it but then you would have to get a Australian pistol licence.You must join a club and go to them 6 or 7 times a year,,to me it's not worth having, you can only use them at the range your not allowed to hunt with them here in Australia no semi auto also,even a .22 semi auto is a no no unless if you have a farm then it's ok 4 the semi auto but not pistol.the laws here are stricked but at lest hunting deer here is all year round no season's here.but there are some you are not allowed to shoot.I tell you now you will miss yr pistol's and semi auto's when you come to Australia.Me it don't worry  me at all because i like bolt action's and leaver actions,one thing that doesn't make sense is you cant own a pump action shotgun,but you can own a center rifle in a pump action. cheers mate

Nope. Australia is like the UK and they hate freedom. They are very anti-gun and handguns are banned there. Only criminals have them and all of the law-abiding citizens quietly turned them in to the police.

If it is on the approved list, and you fill out all the proper paperwork, and you get all the proper approvals, and you pay all the proper taxes, and you get the proper permits, then yes, you can take your handgun with you.

Start at least a year before you are scheduled to go.

That's a pretty definite h**l NO!  If you bring as much as a large knife they will get a Koala and a kangaroo to rape you and then will put in jail for some large aborigine to make a bobbie out of you with his boomerang.  

Find a website for their police dept. and e-mail them for clarifications.  

My advice, sell the gun, move to the Down Under, avoid all stingrays, and buy a rifle there.  PS. don't forget a Dundee-style bowie as well.

i agree with shooter, being a aussie i don't know what the fuss is all about, i had semi autos when we could, & i now do the same without, except for wiping out mobs of pigs in 2-3 mags. we are now more about quality rather than quantity. selecting game is sorting out the c**p stock. but for bringing in hand guns our regulations would not make it worth while.

Australia is a haven for socialists and other groups of people who like big govt interfering in their lives and telling them what to do.  Their gun laws reflect those belief systems.
