  1. Yes, you can own a policy on someone who is not family. The insurance company doesn't care who pays the policy premiums as long as it is paid. Your daughters father would have to consent, but what would he care as long as you are paying the premiums. You would be the owner of the policy, and your daughter's father is the insured. Explain to him that anything could happen to him, no one leaves the house and expects to be hit by another motorist. Things happen, and you would hope he cares enough about his daughter to consent to a physical, and allow you to pay the premiums on this policy to cover college expenses or the cost of raising her. Find a good company that has been around for a long time and has high ratings. Good luck!

  2. Not without their consent.

  3. Yes, if he agrees and is insurable.  If he does not agree, you can get it through special markets, but it would have to be court ordered.

Talk with a few independent insurance brokers.

  4. Yes, you can take out a life policy on him because you have an insurable interest. However, in most cases he'll need to take a medical exam or at least a mouth swab so he must agree to the policy.

  5. you will need his consent but be aware that his "risky" lifestyle can affect the rates.

  6. Call an insurance agent and ask them.  Also make sure you know his social security #, if he dies while she is still a minor you can always get social security for her, too.  All you need to file for social securtiy is your daughter's birth certificate (make sure that he's named as her father on it!), and his death certificate.
