  1. If I remember the conversation right that I had with my aunt, as a parent you are designated some days in case such cases come up., or it might be counted as a holiday.


  2. If you mean can you cover the time off with vacation time? Sure, that's not an issue, but I would probably use sick time instead.

  3. Whether leave is paid or not is entirely dependent upon your employer's policies regarding sick time and/or vacation time.

    The FMLA entitles you to unpaid leave, provided your employer is covered by the Act.  The FMLA applies to employers who have 50 or more employees.  If your employer has less than 50, your state law may still offer some protection.

  4. Company policy can really determine the answer to this.

    My employer sees sick time as being for the employee however most of us are parents so I tell my staff to not tell me what it is for.  Just say 'sick', 'dr appt', 'appt', etc.  I am not aware of a law that says you have to tell them why you need off specifically.

  6. No, you cannot insist for paid time off depending on your written contract, you have a right to take your daughter to hospital unpaid, maybe if you ask your boss if you could use your holidays or make the time back up through overtime

    Or you can take a va ca day.  

  9. you should be able to, i would think your company should give you half a days leave sperate to your annual allowance, as this is a specialised appointment and you are her parent

  12. Yes. You can use personal time or vacation.  Unless you call or say you are not feeling good you can't take sick time.
