  1. depends on the plants!! I imagine there's certain plants customs wouldn't be too keen on you transporting!

  2. It depends on the plant! (mental image - "excuse me, my dearest petunia, how would you like to go to Ireland...?!!!).

Seriously, the Dept of Agriculture's site suggests that most plants can be imported without notice or restriction. They include a list of plants that require a label or documentation; they are mainly trees. Being an agricultural nation, we're dependent on people being responsible with plants and livestock. During the 2001 foot and mouth epidemic that badly affected the UK, the UK government accused us of "draconian measures". They were quite correct - but then we managed to avoid a major outbreak whereas the unfortunate UK farmers were faced with a dreadful situation than ruined many lives and lasted years (mainly due to slow and weak government action, it has to be admitted).

While my Dublin site does not have information on plants, you might like to support it by visiting anyway! There is information on regions other than Dublin, including a cultural appraisal of the Irish.

  3. If you go by boat then possibly but not by plane. Check with ferry company if you're going by boat.

  4. i assume so...

  5. I know that you can't bring food from the UK to Ireland and it is the same going form Ireland to the UK but i am not sure about plants you could call the Irish Embassy and ask.

  6. I don't know for sure but you really shouldn't. Plants, and the soil they are in, harbour fungi, diseases, insects etc. that may do no harm in their native ecosystem but could be invasive in the context of the Irish ecosystem. If you can, leave the plants in the UK. Best thing is to buy locally sources plants / seeds of native species.
