I go to the ortho august 15th. All my teeth are perfectly straight and in line except for one tooth (its the tooth all the way on the left of my four bottom teeth and it is straight but just a little out of position). Football starts the following monday and i really want my braces off because i really hate the braces mouthpiece and i really want to just use the smaller more comfortable one. Last time i went to the ortho, he said 1 or 2 more visits. When i go to the ortho on august 15th, if he says i need to have them on for one more visit, can i talk to him about getting them off, and if there are any options (maybe if he takes them off maybe extended the amount of time i wear the retainer will have the same results as leaving the braces on for another visit)? Should i talk to him about this?

Also, do your teeth have to be absolutley perfect and perfectly in line to come off? if they don't then maybe they will come off anyway?

And any ideas of what the ortho could suggest if i get them off early? example: invisalign, retainer for longer, etc?

  1. Bring your parents along to the appt.  so you can all talk to him together.   Dentists listen a lot more to parents than kids,  since all kids continually ask to have their braces off.

Tell him that for football you want them off as soon as can be arranged.    A retainer can do a certain amount of finishing,  depending on what issues you have left.

People take their braces off early all the time,   you will have to sign a form stating you understand because you are stopping early,  your teeth have a much higher change of relapsing,  although if you are good at retainers,  that will not happen easily.

Since you are so close to the end,  with just an appt. or 2 left,  you should be fine,  and he should agree with you and your parents to take them off in the next week or two.

  2. Yes you can but you won't be able to get them off that early because your ortho needs to take impressians of your teeth for your retainer and it takes some time for the retainer to be ready. also your parents have to sign a form to remove your braces off early and there is a fee for that,
