Can i tax my van?northern ireland/uk?

iv just bought a van and iam waiting on the tax book.the van is tested.can i get anything from the tax office to cover me on the road until i get it taxed.

it is best to display some kind of sign that says 'tax disc in post.' It got us out of trouble so it's got to be worth it!
