  1. Some people have the ability to use different accents but for most of us if you try to put on a different accent it sounds  weird and not natural. If you are young and living in Australia over the years your accent will modify and become more Australian.

  2. It doesn't matter what language you speak, with what accent, you won't stand out in multicultural Australia. A huge proprtion of our residents were born overseas (arouind 40% in Sydney), and speak all manner of mangled Englsih with all manner of accents, or just use their home languages. There is no real way to tell a visitor here for a day from a 10 year resident. Any half decent level of English puts you well ahead.

After that, it depends on which part of society you want to blend in with. You could probably never sound like a "genuine ocker" Aussie even if you arrived here as an adult and lived here the rest of your life. But arrive as kid, go to a school of Ozzies, and you'll probably be 95% there in 6 months without making an ounce of effort! But that last 5% will probably elude you for ever!

  3. He is a website you can look at for the Australian Language and slang.

  4. of corse!

  5. Short answer: No.

    Long answer: No, you can't.

Stick with what you've got. (unless you're from the US south, in which case, god help you. :) )

  6. Probably not. I have never heard any non Aussie do the accent without it sounding British

  7. only if you're awesome enough...

  8. you could live in Australia for 20 years and still not sound like a true Aussie

  9. If you speak English you can speak Australian. It takes a while to develope any accent but once you live in a Country for a while the accent comes naturally.

  10. 'ere..wot'z this cobber spilling beans ova a brew...dis fella wanna learn dah lingo of dis 'ere Ozzies...Sure is bonza if yuh fair dinkum an' ain't beatin about dah bush...best yuh wander down to duh local and swill a jug or two and ave a yarn wit sum true blue bloke who afta a spill and a bit unda 'is belt may tech yuh a ting or two

  11. As with most things, you CAN teach yourself that language.

  12. Most Australians don't speak Australian if you mean the stereotypical Steve Irwin ocker accent and vocab. But go ahead if you want to sound like a phony idiot - people from OS never seem to get it quite right unless they come here as children.

  13. It is said that if you come to Australia when you are young then you will pick up the accent. If you arrive here at 17or over then you are most likely to retain your original accent.

    Hope this helps
