  1. Yes, you can travel on the tube using the oyster card, also on the buses.  

    You get the oyster card at the ticket office in your nearest underground station or a designated newsagent, you put as much or as little money as you wish.  

    This should explain it better then I can, don't bother applying for it online, just get it at the tube station when you arrive in Heathrow

  2. If you have an oyster card pay as you go you can travel in all the zones.

    If you are just visiting London though you might not need all the zones as most sights / attractions / hotels etc are in central London (zones 1 and 2) and outside these are mostly residential areas. Here is a tube map which shows the different zones http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/s...
