  1. Have things changed? I did fly to shannon several years ago with no passport. Just needed id.

  2. By Ferry, no.  Flying, yes.

  3. Yes, only photo ID is needed, such as a driving license.

If flying there's a chance you would tho.

  4. You can't fly anywhere without a passport - that is a policy of airline companies - however you can travel from Scotland to NI on a ferry and then walk, drive, cycle, take a train or bus etc across the no-longer-extant border - You may need some form of ID to buy a ferry ticket such as a driving license but perhaps not.......................

  5. Britain and Ireland are part of a Common Travel Area. By Ferry and over-land border, a passport is not needed. Due to heightened security with air flights, a passport is now needed from you to be presented to the air carrier.

  6. no

  7. If you are flying then the airline will insist on seeing your passport or driving licence before letting you on the plane.

If you are a UK citizen then you do not require a passport to travel by ferry between the UK and the Republic (see http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/st... ). The previous comment about not needing a passport to travel between EU countries, just photo id, is incorrect. There are two separate areas: The Schengen Zone, which comprises most of the EU countries plus some others like Switzerland and Iceland, and the Common Travel Area of the UK and Ireland (+Channel Islands & Isle of Man) - you need a passport or national ID card to travel between the two areas, but not inside each of the areas. If you are crossing the Irish border by land, either road or rail, then there are no border checks at all.

  8. Not if you are flying to the Republic, no.

  9. you need a passport or photo id now for any air travel even within the UK.  if you are travelling to northern ireland by ferry then you do not need a passport as its part of the UK and may not need one for eire either. But its best to check with your carrier

  10. just need id. driving licence or something. check with your airline though

  11. Northern Ireland..Yes So long as you are travelling on what is considered a domestic flight you won't need a passport but....

You will need a form of picture ID.

  12. We took the ferry from Holyhead to Ireland last October and did not need any ID, although we took our passports with us just in case...but my understanding is that this is going to change at some point this year and you will have to have a passport to be able to enter Ireland whether by ferry or by plane.

(Ireland being the Republic as opposed to Northern Ireland which is part of the UK, although if flying there, you will need ID)

  13. well we can fly from the ROI to the UK with just photo ID...so im guessing you can do the same...may depend on the airline your flying with though- check with them

  14. You don't need passports while crossing borders between countries belonging to EU, just a photo ID.

  15. Things have changed. You can now only enter Ireland with a passport (and Irish visa if you need one) or, if and only if, you were born in the UK before 1983 or in Ireland, a drivers license. Nothing else is accepted.

  16. We did

  17. I JUST TRAVELLED TO ENGLAND AND BACK BY PLANE ALL YOU NEED IS PHOTOGRAPHIC ID WASNT ASKED FOR ANYHTING ELSE

  18. yes if ur coming to northern ireland just photo id is needed no if your going to the south as its independant of britain
