Yes to both...

You can use ANY small DVD-R or DVD-RW disc, just be sure it is NOT DVD +R nor DVD +RW since your cam supports ONLY "-" (minus) discs.

As for the SD card - you can use it, but I wold not use it for movie clips, since recording on SD card is in lower quality than recording on DVD disc. Use it for taking still photos (it could be preset either way).

Have fun, that one looks like quite nice and very reasonably priced cam. I like the 37x optical zoom, that is really good.
