Can i upgrade the cpu in my dell 4700?

i am upgrading my dell 4700 and i need to know if i can put a core 2 duo or if i can preferably a Core 2 Quad in or will i half to swap out my mother board i currently have 4GB of ram and a 1 terabyte hard drive

  1. Most can't even run the P4 Prescotts with 2MB L2 cache in a 4700. Not gonna run a Core 2 Duo or Quad with a 915 chipset. I suggest you buy a new board for whatever cpu you want. Great deals on P35 boards now. Since you run DDR2 in your 4700 you can also use the ram in the new board. If you don't need Raid or Crossfire heres a great deal on a stable P35 board.

    Bear in mind that, since you will be changing motherboard chipsets you will probably have to reinstall the OS so make sure you have all your vids,pics, tunes, docs etc backed up and you have your OS disc, key, and SATA drivers ready before you do the swap.
