I have a nextar mn2707. I have updated to the latest firmware. My problem is that the maps have not been updated. It can't find certain areas that google maps or maps which you buy. Example: My gf house is located in a new area (about 3 yrs old).

  1. Usually GPS receivers can only read maps produced by their manufacturer.  This is so the manufacturer can continue making money off of you after you have finished purchasing their hardware (the GPS receiver).  It would be great if there was a generic format for routable maps so everyone can load their GPS receiver for free or cheap, but there really isn't at the moment.  It takes a lot of work and it's just cheaper/easier to spend $100 on a new map package.

So I really doubt you will be able to get Microsoft Streets and Trips street data onto the Nextar that is in a format that the Nextar can use to create routes and give directions.

One of the reasons I recommend against Nextar is because they are not a truly dedicated GPS receiver manufacturer.  It is easy to find map software and updates on Garmin, Magellan, and TomTom's websites.  On Nextar's site, I couldn't find anything about map update packages for sale.
