Can i use a fm antenna to broadcasting on a am transmitter?

hi i have a fm antenna and a am transmitter cause i cant find any am antennas out there if you no of any sites that do cheap am broadcasting antennas let me no thanks

but anyway can i use the fm antenna on the am transmitter and will it do anything to the output?

  1. Depends upon frequency but normally will cause the Am transmitters power to fold back on itself and basically reduce the power going out .. so if it's high enough, it can damage the transmitter among other things.

    If you have the skills and the license to broadcast, building a dipole for the frequency you want to broadcast on would be your best bet as all power sent out on a properly set up antenna can send out all power sent to it.

    This is how radio stations did it years ago.. there are kits you can buy to reduce the size of the antenna but will cost some money.....

    Part 15 in the US if you are using that restricts the size of the antenna anyway


  2. You will need to have an antenna that can "match" the output of the AM transmitter.

    If you don't have the technical knowledge, be advised that your transmitter can go up in flames..literally, if you don't know what you're doing.

    If you're going to do "Part 15," you can legally only get 200 to 300 feet out with FM.  On AM, you can legally get out a mile or two.
